Trent Severn Waterway Opens May 21st
While summer doesn’t officially begin until the summer solstice in June, many boaters feel the Victoria Day long weekend in May is the kickoff to the boating season. That’s because it’s the opening weekend of the Trent-Severn Waterway.
The Trent-Severn Waterway is more than a chain of lakes, rivers and canals stretching from Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay. The Trent-Severn Waterway is a tour through southern Ontario's past and present, making this waterway a National Historic Site of Canada.
For 400 kilometres and 44 locks, cruising boaters will be treated to the ever-changing scenic landscape – from the Great Lakes lowlands and limestone outcroppings to the granite of the Canadian Shield. On a busy day, over 300 boats may pass through a single lock.
