PFDMandatory life-jackets

Sadly, it was a solemn August for the province of Ontario as it saw eight people drown in its waterways.  Anytime there is a death/drowning on the water, it raises the debate about whether or not life-jackets should be mandatory for all boaters.  Macleans magazine raises some compelling arguments in a recent piece by Andrew Coyne entitled, “Drowning in simple-mindedness.”

TIBSSeptember In-Water Boat Show cancelled
The 2009 Toronto In-Water Boat Show will not run this September.
Show organizers have announced that, due to the economic downturn in the U.S. and resulting low inventory levels in Canada, local boat dealers and manufacturers thought it best to postpone this year’s Toronto In-Water Show. Organizers say the popular event will return for September 16 to 19, 2010.

In the meantime, interested boat buyers can look forward to shopping dealers’ special boat show season pricing and incentives at the Toronto International Boat Show, which will be held at Exhibition Place’s Direct Energy Centre from January 9 to 17, 2010.

Helpful Tips

PCOC Card September 15th

As of September 15, 2009, all boaters operating any motorized pleasure craft will require a Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card (PCOC).  Types of pleasure craft include: powerboats, personal watercraft (PWC), canoes and kayaks, sailboats or sailboards, airboats and hovercrafts.  Don’t get caught without one, be sure to get yours today.

Fuel Stabilizer

Now is the time to add fuel stabilizer to your boat.  Many boaters make the mistake of waiting till winterizing to add it to their tanks, but the best way is to add it in September to let it cycle through your engine before the cold weather hits.
